Safe school

Tests in which dangerous substances can be released must be carried out in the fume cupboard depending on the result of the risk assessment. To do this, there must be at least one fume cupboard in each chemical room (preparation, classroom or practice room). Other attempts may require the use of a trigger. This must be determined by a risk assessment before each test.

The deductions must be checked regularly, at least every three years, by a qualified person. The results of the examination are to be documented in test reports and should also be visible at school. The test criteria can be found (DGUV Information 213-857). The test intervals are to be defined as part of the risk assessment. It may be necessary to shorten these test intervals to at least once a year . Criteria for this are, among other things, frequency of use, occurrence of defects, such as stiffness of the sash, or the presence of a monitoring display on the fume cupboard.

We have been doing the annual review of the natural science rooms at well-known schools for many years.

We can also check the gas fittings and pipes
